Redondo targeting Galáctico signing as part of major squad overhaul

Fernando Redondo wants 2 key players for Real Madrid in the summer, and is wiling to let as many as fifteen go, as he continues his overhaul of the club.

While the Argentine had already discussed these plans with President Florentino Pérez prior to Barcelona’s capture of long term target Sergio Milinkovic Savic, that signing has only strengthened his resolve.

Redondo has convinced Pérez that the team needs further work, and more top-quality players are necessary to compete with Barcelona & the top teams in Europe. Pérez is fully behind that.

The manager is keen to bring in a central midfielder to replace Luka Modric, who moved to Italian giants Inter for £46.5m, with Napoli’s Marek Hamsik and Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen the main targets.

Modric Inter

While most at Madrid are now hopeful that the manager’s relationship with Isco will be resolved after recent difficulties, it still isn’t completely fixed after the club rejected a £100m offer from Manchester United the week after Marco Asensio was sold to Liverpool for the same figure.

It is thought that Redondo wants to use the Asensio money to bring in Eden Hazard from Chelsea, Hazard a long term target of Madrid could be turned and would certainly fit the President’s new plan.

The players rumoured to be leaving the club will certainly create space on the ever expanding wage bill with savings of approximately £600k per week (or one and a half Gareth Bale’s) being reported .

The unexpected sales of Asensio & Modric plus the expected income generated by player sales will certainly help the club’s finances which increases the opportunity for Madrid to land their new galáctico and after a poll on social media we have drawn up a shortlist of potential galáctico targets Los Blancos could sign:

There is a relentless pressure from the fans to get it right this season and tests don’t come much tougher than playing your rivals back to back in The Super Cup & the opening La Liga fixture but the Madrid hierarchy are taking it in their stride. Madrid are not rushed, they are not hasty but they will be ready.

Thanks for reading, the next instalment will have a touch more Football Manager as I introduce the new recruits and how they’ll fit into the narrow-diamond tactical system I want to introduce. If there’s anything you’d like to know about the save, or an angle you’d like to read about please let me know – this is for fun so I’m open to try something different!
